Habits that are making your jaw pain worse

Jaw habits are some of the first things we discuss I see a client for the first time. Here are some habits to be mindful of (and hopefully stop all together) if you’re experiencing jaw pain. These habits typically add more load to the jaw and can often irritate already sensitive structures including muscles, joints and ligaments surrounding the jaw.

  • Nail Biting

  • Chewing on pens/pencils

  • Chewing gum

  • Resting hand on jaw

  • Smoking

  • Jaw play - wiggling your jaw side to side

  • Tongue thrust - sticking the tip of your tongue forward when you’re about to drink from a cup

If these are things you do regularly and you are struggling to manage your jaw pain, get in touch via our Contacts page
